This pair of 12" high,15" wide at top canvas leggings fasten with laces and metal hooks. The legging is placed around the calf of the leg with the buttoned side out and adjusted by the strap that passes under the sole of the shoe, just in front of the heel. Leggings typically extended to mid-calf and had a garter strap(not on this pair) to hold them up and were tied just below the knee. During WWII the foot soldiers were referred to as "legs" by paratroopers and other U.S. forces that did not wear the standard Army leggings issued with the field service shoe. Leggings began to disappear towards the end of that war, after experiments with the general issue of combat boots. Try these on to visualize a soldier from almost 100 years ago; you can see that there is not as much protection for the leg as with thick boots. These would be a great gift for a military or history student. I have a few other military items listed here, and will combine orders for discount and shipping savings.
