This sweet young girl was a real challenge to photograph, as she is made entirely of lignite coal from Beulah, North Dakota; the coal residue or dust is combined with a resin to create sculptures. She is 4 1/4" high, on a round stand 2 1/4" across, with her head bowed in prayer. She has short pigtails, a dress with an apron and is very light weight. This might be a nice inspiration for a child's room, as I suspect it is fairly non-breakable. She might also lead to a discussion about coal or mining or natural resources.
