Info on Designer:
Anni and Bent Knudsen with paper clips and silverware, 1977.
Bent Knudsen (1924-97) was a trained clerk at CM Cohr, Fredericia. After a few years at various silver and goldsmiths in Copenhagen, he came to Hans Hansen Silversmith in Kolding in 1946. In 1950 he married Anni (1926-2013), who came from Viborg, was a trade student and in 1947 had been employed in a furniture store in Kolding. They had met at a guest house in Kolding. After a year in Norway, they returned to Kolding in 1951, where Bent Knudsen's work with Hans Hansen continued.
In parallel, they were both busy drawing and cutting in cardboard and folio. Your Christmas decoration, de-signed by Bent Knudsen from 1952 on the invitation of Karl Gustav Hansen's sister Karen Hans Han-sen, who ruled Hans Hansen's business in Østergade, quickly became popular and recognized by the great handicrafts in Copenhagen, The Permanent, and Handwerkets Promotion in Copenhagen and was also exported among other things. to the United States and Japan. Anni Knudsen became the sales manager of the company, as Bent Knudsen was by nature restrained and would rather work unnoticed. She landed and stared around and presented the goods in a hat box, while he was allowed to design in paper and silver.
In 1956 Bent Knudsen established his own workshop in Bakgård's farm in Søndergade. Here he produced a large range of preferably silver jewelry in geometric figures and many with stones, some corpus workers and large amounts of paper clips that were put out at the workshop and assembled by a large number of employees who worked at home. In 1960, the family moved to Dyrehavevej 103, where some German bunkers in the garden were converted into a large exhibition area for paper clips in 1966.
In Bent Knudsen's later years, he also made simple markings for a wide range of companies and institutions.
Since 1952, a year's Christmas present was made every year, which could also be used as a Christmas card.
Exhibitions: Anni and Bent Knudsen have exhibited at the Kunstindustrimuseet, Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte der Stadt Dortmund in Schloss Cappenberg and at the Museum at Koldinghus. In 1974, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik visited the company.
