A very sought after Taxco designer is Emma Melendez, niece of the great silversmith Rafael Melendez. Emma opened her shop in 1953 and hired her first silversmith in 1954 , Miguel Garcia , to help her create her own designs. Many other silversmiths were hired to work for Emma throughout the years, Roman Chavarrieta , R.CH among the list of primary silversmiths.
Emma Melendez was active as a designer between 1953-1971 and produced quality Mexican jewelry
and accessories that continues to be highly sought after.
Her designs draw on ancient Aztec and Mayan ideas while they incorporate bold modern strokes.
