Brass Grain Scale with brass grain bucket.
Know as a Chondrometer or Grain Scale. It is a brass scale with a sliding counterweight. This design of scale was used to measure the bulk density of grain.
Scale measures 11¼” long, Brass with steel hardware. Stamped on bottom 233945.
Bucket measures 4¼” tall without handle. , 4¾” diameter at base. Marked 6795 on handle.
Purpose of a grain scale was designed to determine the bulk density of grain. Grain density is measured in kilograms per hectolitre (Imp. pounds per bushel). The density is a guide to wheat quality and determines the price and the space required to store and transport the crop.
