Founded by Karoly Lingel (1837-1911) , Lingel was Hungary’s first furniture factory. The factory in Pillango St. was built around the turn of the 20th Century and by 1910 was fully mechanized and had 120 fully furnished showrooms on the premises of the factory. Lingel furniture was known to have an emphasis on modern shapes and styles. Their established line was a counterpoint to the experimental pieces being produced by the Bauhaus and other groups at the time. The style is still highly popular in Hungary today.
