This miniature pair of soft leather gloves exudes the warm palette known as "ashes of roses". A popular color for women's clothing at the turn of the 20th Century, "ashes of roses" can be described as a deep, dusty taupe with whispers of rose. These gants are approximately 3 1/2" long and 1 1/4" wide. The tiny thumb measures about 1 1/4". They measure 1 1/2" flat across the base of the fingers. One glove is slightly longer than the other, and one shows some discoloration. Upon careful observation, I suspect one was worn on the hand of a long-ago doll, and the other was held in the other hand rather than worn on it. That would explain the slight stretching and minimal fading of the this deep, rich hue in one glove. Tiny, intact stitching trims the gloves, as does the fancy "pinking around scallops" at the wrists. The pinked and scalloped edges of the gloves are definitely from a top French doll 19th Century manufacturer. It is same way BRU dolls were finished at the neckline, etc, of their kid leather bodies. Absolutely perfect for a French bebe, or larger French fashion's spring toilette!
