From 1945 until the early 1960's there was an explosion of really fine costume jewelry that elevated the rhinestone to new heights. The cut, clarity and color saturation of the faux jewels was advanced by designers who came out of the finest jewelry design houses of Europe and America. While this piece is unmarked, it is most certainly made by one of the better jewelry makers of the period. It is exceptionally well made and balanced. It is a substantial brooch that measures 2" x 2" and features beautiful deep green and blue rhinestones in different shapes and sizes. One of the signs of a great brooch is that the back side is nearly as decorative as the jeweled face. This one has a wonderful flower design that acts as the center piece for the combination of closed back and open back prong style bezels. The pin is a rollover clasp that is consistent with the era. The overall condition is very good with a beautiful patina and clear stones. This piece is a classic that will last another lifetime and will make your children smile when they remember your affinity for it. Email me if you have any questions and thanks for your interest.
