A lovely sterling silver brooch center set with an oval, facet cut amethyst gemstone, flanked on each side with a dome of 14K gold. Finely crafted with applied detailing that includes granulation and dot work.

The amethyst is a beautiful lavender color.

I purchased several pieces of jewelry from this masterful jewelry artisan and silver smith in Bali in the 1970’s. The design is classic Balinese.

Back marked, “925”. Closes securely with an exaggerated ‘C’ clasp.

It measures 1-7/8 inches long by just over 1/2 inch wide at the center.

Condition is excellent. No damage to pin body or to the amethyst stone. Clasp closes securely.

HISTORIQUE: Balinese silver work is part of an ancient tradition. The art of metal work arrived in Indonesia in the Bronze Age from Southern Chinese and Southeast Asian areas.

Amethyst crystals are one of the world’s most popular gemstones and have been in use for thousands of years. The believed healing properties associated with the stone are rather impressive and trace back to ancient Greek beliefs. In fact, the word ‘amethyst’ comes from the Greek word amethystos, which means sober and alludes to the idea of maintaining a solid, sober mindset.
Amethyst has long been a symbol of peace, cleansing and calming energy.

Cultures all over the world have created beautiful jewelry pieces and other objects from this material. Amethyst is February’s birthstone.
