A fantastic vintage Chinese peasant doll in original clothes and traditional woven grass farmer’s hat. The doll is made of firmly stuffed cloth with composition lower arms, legs, hands, feet and head. He wears a black top braid. All the lacquer is hand painted –face, finger nails and toe nails.
He wears handmade cotton clothes of loose trousers and a tunic top with a mandarin collar and frog closures. The fabric is a simple pattern of little circles with swaths of pale blue and red.
Made and purchased in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Original round tag was tucked into his waist band. Reads, “CHINESE DOLL – MADE IN HONG KONG”. Back of tag stamped, “No 153 SIZE 12″ Cow Boy”.
Stands 12 inches tall.
Exceptional condition. No loss or damage to composition or painted finish. No tears or wear to clothes with some fading to blue and red tints on front of garments.
A beautiful example of the traditional Chinese peasant dolls that were prevalent in the mid-1900s.
A wonderful piece for a collector.
