This difficult to find plate features an Oriental inspired blue urn and floral center motif bordered by a wide outer band of colbalt blue in a sponge ware or spatter ware pattern. (Later versions of the `PEEL' pattern featured a lattice patterned border.)
The clear black back mark reads, ""PEEL" Solian Ware, SOHO POTTERY LTD, COBRIDGE ENGLAND, 5922". The mark dates the plate to the very early 1930's.
The 9 Inch plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, paint loss or other signs of wear. The back of the plate shows light crazing – the front does not.
HISTORY: SOHO Pottery (Ltd) was a manufacturer of earthenware in Tunstall, England from 1901 to 1906. The small factory relocated to Cobridge, England in 1906 and remained in business until 1944. Their work is highly collectable.
