This is an absolutely charming figural piece. It originates from Bourgogne France and dates towards 1900.
The base is oval and glazed to depict green grass. There is an old tree stump which serves to hold the pen. The 1/4" outer edge of the base is accented in gilt. A handsome rooster stands in the grass with his wings slightly outstretched. He is a full figure, with detailing on all sides. The feather coloring is pretty, in pale grey and "rooster" red. He has a jaunty expression on his face. His body is accented with gilt. The bottom is stamped with the model number.
It measures: 3 5/8" tall, the base 3 1/4" x 2", the rooster alone 2 3/4" x 2 1/2". The porte stylo is in very good condition with only minute wear to the underneath side of his back wing (two tiny chips to the glaze).
It is a pretty accessory for a small kitchen or writing desk!
