A precious old piece, it once served a beautiful lady to hold her pins and needles. It originates from a vast sewing accessory collection of "Madame X" in Paris. It dates from the late 19th century, 1890-1900.
During the end of the century, ladies did all forms of beautiful needlework. Many beautiful and unique pieces were produced for this prolific hobby.
The little dog is cast from a blend of metals to form a solid and heavy figure. The details of his little flopped ears, the curving strands of his hair and his little flat collar add to the personality of the piece. At the center of his back a rounded cushion is placed, covered in deep navy velvet, to hold pins and needles.
The piece is in very good antique condition. It measures 2 1/2" long, nose to tail; 2" tall at head and 1 1/2" tall at tail. The cushion is intact, no noticeable flaws are detected.
