Exquisite ice cream slice and scoop, or serving spoon, in .950 sterling silver with 22k gold plating (vermeil) on the service ends of the pieces. The strapped stems are in silver, terminating in long oval handles bordered with fine ribboned ribbing. The tips decorated with graceful acanthus leafs, the tops bedecked with stemmed roses and leafy fronds. The bowls of both pieces are fabulous. On one half of the bowl there is a panel deeply carved with a Renaissance style pattern. There is a mixed metal effect, the floral and foliate raised elements in gold upon a silver ground. A charming feature: within each decorative panel a serpent may be found intertwined among the vines. The other half of the bowl engraved with a putti set amidst flowers, leafs and vines. The workmanship of the highest quality. The set comes in the original fitted box! With green velvet and white satin lining. Condition is excellent; very minor signs of age. There are no monograms! This indicates that in addition to being ready for your own personalization, it is perhaps likely that set was not even used. The condition of the silver and the box suggest these were certainly treasured by someone and kept carefully stored for special occasions.
Marks: Each piece bear the Minerve 1st titre: the French .950 sterling guarantee and the maker's mark for Louis Coignet.
Dimensions: The slice is 10 3/8" long, 2.25" wide and weighs 112 grams. The spoon is 9.25" long, 3" wide and weighs 105 grams. The box is 12.25' long, 7.25" front to back, and 1 1/8" deep.
