Majestic Antique French Sterling & Crystal Drageoir, Confituruer, Centerpiece
Called a "drageoir" in France, these superb and majestic lidded sugar bowls are so large and magnificent that they serve equally well as centerpieces at table. As serving pieces, they are not limited to sugar or jam, as they were originally intended. This one is majestic, standing a full 12" in height. The .950 sterling silver decoration highlights in clude: the lid, a clean slate to better frame the exquisite intricate floral top knop, surrounded with graceful chased leafs. Top rimmed with floral foliate border. There are sinuous handles accented with strapping and lamberkins and charming foliate bases. The bottom of the handles attach to the base with raised foliate stem topped with a fruit. The original crystal bowl beautifully shaped and in fine condition. All seated atop a pedestal supported by a square base with four formed feet. This does not fully describe this masterfully designed piece. You will simply have to look at the pictures tto get a complete 'picture'. It magnificent, in very good to excellent condition.
Marks: All silver parts bear the Minerve 1st titre, .950 sterling guarantee. The maker's punch is very hard to make out. The piece is attributed to Desire Duprez, active in Paris in 1867.
