A classic period piece, epitomizing chic luxury in the early to mid 20th Century, a boxed set comprising a tortoise shell and 18k gold cigarette holder and an 18k gold lighter. Uncertain as to the exact age of the set; the gold guarantee is post 1838; but the history of Hermes indicates that accessories were added in the 1920's by Emile-Maurice Hermes. And doesn't this set have a Flapper ambience? The box is covered with dove grey suede, lined with silk and marked Hermes; all in very good condition. The gold is decorated with an ornate guilloche pattern. Condition is very good to excellent. The gold portion of the holder slides over the shell, the user end of the shell shows some very slight wear. I do not know if the lighter works, or how it works. A very rare find. Wonderful for collectors of Tobacciana or Roaring 20's, Flapper fashion collections.
Please see photos for dimensions and marks. Each gold portion is fully marked with the tete d'aigle guarantee for 18k gold, a maker's punch (I cannot make out the maker) and "Hermes Paris". The box also is marked "Hermes". The weight of the lighter and holder are 15-20 grams.
