Simply exquisite and very rare antique French Sterling figural liqueur or decanter set with 2 heavy crystal stoppered bottles dating from 1809-1822. Classic graceful lines, reminiscent of early Roman statuary, there is a silver center handle topped,at 12", with a magnificent female head & bodice surrounded by a wreathe of grapes, leafs and vines. Her shoulders draped with a tied shawl. The decanters stand in two circular holders decorated with several standing nymphs; each holding in one hand a toasting glass, in the other a sprig of ripened grapes with verdure. The symbolism here insinuates that the decanters set intended to present liqueurs; yet it will just as easily provide an elegant oil and vinegar set. Between two nymphs on either side of the stand is an opulent decoration, a profusion of grape leafs and vines with bows and ribbons, surrounding a lovely female head and shoulders. Her head is draped with grape leafs, earpieces of several grapes. Finally we come to the base, upon which all the rest of this sits. It is rectangular, of The base rests upon four paw feet, bordered with a nicely worked silver geometric edge and a flat surface top, upon which the remainder rests. The condition over all is simply grand. No noticeable flaws to note; on the other hand this silver is 200 years old. I wouldn't expect the piece lacking in patina and a few signs of a busy life. The glass decanters are in much the same condition: no flaws of note yet perhaps an imperfection here and there. The glass bottle are not original to the set and the decanter tops (i.e., the inserts at the tops into the tiny circle storage devices near the bottom) and do not sit properly in the circular mounts. This I would call the chief misadventure for our precious work of fine French creative expression. This is truly a stunning and rare piece of antique french Sterling Silver roughly 200 years old! Collectible for a certainty. Condition is excellent and may certainly dignify any service. Currently on sale at a dramatically reduced price!
