Antique French enamel cobalt blue jewelry casket with jeweled beading and gilt bronze mounts.
France, 19th century
This elegant and diminutive French enamel jewelry casket is gracefully crafted in stunning detail with hand applied raised jeweled beads on a rich cobalt blue ground. The blue ground color combined with the delicate gilt accents and raised enamel dots is characteristic of the work of the French enamellists residing in Sevres and Bresse. This intricately hand enamelled box is of exceptional quality.
Enamel caskets of this type are very fragile and susceptible to damage. This one is in very good condition. There are a few missing beads and a tiny chip (above hinge) on the enameled lid panel. A few tiny stress lines on the lid just above the hinge are barely visible when magnified with a jeweler's loupe. The interior silk lining shows typical age related wear. This richly embellished jewelry casket will make a beautiful addition to any French enamel collection. The items in the last photograph are for display only and are not included.
