Art Deco Poppies Wheat Flowers Embroidered Linen Tablecloth
This lovely linen tablecloth has large colorful hand embroidered floral motifs with a delicate embellishment of black, all done in embroidery floss on medium to heavy weight white linen.
There are edge and corner motifs in abundance, with poppies, blue cornflowers, wheat berry sheaves, and more flowers. These are connected with rays and lines of black, which also define the center, the edges are finished with black crochet. There are also some cross stitch patterns. I embroider, and collect myself, and this is a great sampler piece of embroidery of the era.
The style and technique hearkens back to the Arts and Crafts Mission era, but from the interpretation of the pattern, rays and geometric style, I'd date this from the 1920's to 30's.
In very good + vintage condition. Colors bright, fabric strong, no obvious stains. A few of the fine black threads are coming undone. I have carefully washed it.
Measures: 44" x 60" with a slightly scalloped edge border.
