Vintage Husqvarna Oval 5 Qt. Dutch Oven in Cream and Brown Imagine my surprise when I ran across a hefty and very pretty enameled cast iron Dutch oven bearing the Husqvarna trade name under the lid and on the bottom of the pan. Husqvarna, a Swedish company established in 1903, is best known for its outdoor power products such as chain saws, lawn mowers and even tractors. It is a very handsome Dutch oven, heavy-enameled in light cream and decorated with folkloric (hand-painted?) “Brown Birdie” trim. Come to find out, Husqvarna manufactured this ware for decades in Europe, certainly throughout the ‘60s and maybe into the ‘70s, though it was not heavily marketed in the U.S. The shape of this remarkable 5 qt. Dutch oven is distinctive: it has a high-domed oval lid, enameled in cream and trimmed in milk chocolate brown. It has an integrated handle, also trimmed in brown. It fits over a 12 ½” by 9” by 4” oval deep pan – but the brown-rimmed cream-colored pan has integrated, inset side handles, giving it a definitely squared edge look beneath the rounded rim. Very ingenious; really cool. Because of the domed lid, the utensil will easily accommodate a fat roaster chicken. With the lid on, it stands over 8” tall. Condition: No soiling, burning, staining. Would be “As New” except for one ½” chip on the domed lid edge, and natural, age-related crackling on the bottom of the pan. So: VG+.
