In this atmospheric impressionistic painting, the painter depicts a stand of trees including white birch with wonderful patterns of branches and foliage by a country road and a river in the foreground with luminous sky and a meadow, hills and houses in the distance.The artist has signed this piece on the bottom right corner. It is framed under glass in a wood frame which measures 23"h x 33"w, frame has stain on lower right corner and is stamped Takoma Art Shop on back.. From an estate in College Park MD.
Raphael Senseman was born in Camden, NJ. (1870 - 1965). He studied with his uncle, 19th century painter William Henry Lippincott, and was known primarily for his landscape paintings. He began exhibiting his work at the turn of the century, and was active in Camden, Collingswood and Washington, DC.
