Black moiré taffeta purse with intricately embossed and pierced golden colored frame decorated with cherubs gathering flowers. It has a plunger clasp, decorative flower wreath pendant on the front and a chain handle as golden in hue as the gilded frame top. Rounded fabric body has a pleated top and a silk lining, with pocket. The only mark I could find was "Made in France" stamped inside the frame, which appears to be plated. A really gorgeous purse.
Pierced exterior frame, chain handle and fabric body in excellent condition. You can see through the design at the sides of the frame, an uncommon decorative effect. The plunger clasp works fine and holds the bag tightly closed. The pretty lining inside mostly looks good but does have a tear and signs of wear beside the pocket. The interior pocket also has some tears and sags a bit from age. Despite the condition of the interior fabric lining and the ghostly scent of a perfume from long ago the fine exterior appearance of this incredible handbag suggests it wasn't much used.
Measures 9 3/4 inches from top of clasp to bottom of bag, 8 inches across the widest part of the fabric portion and the chain handle adds about another 8 inches in length, measuring doubled, or 13 inches if the chain were used singly.
