Peters & Reed existed in South Zanesvile, Ohio only from 1899 to 1921, when its name changed to Zane Pottery. This vase was made from early Peters & Reed (1912 - 1920) traditional red clay and is unmarked, so its production would have been 1920 or before. Base color an even apricot tone, over-decorated with liberal freehand drip glaze applications of brown, cerulean blue, and green, with a high gloss clear glaze overall. Shadow Ware's drip glaze decoration makes every example a one-off, with no two being exactly alike. On this vase blue was used liberally, making it particularly outstanding.

Measures 8 inches tall, 2 inches across the mouth and 3 inches across the base. Condition is very good, with a few small harmless glaze pops and tiny scratches. To be expected overall crazing in the high gloss glaze; I noted one fingertip size crazed area near the base more obvious to the touch than sight possibly from an impact. No chips, cracks or repairs. There is an in the making blob of glaze material that stands proud near the neck, see detailed images.
