Antique German art glass vase in a sculpted wave-form gilt Orivit metal mount. Monumental in size, beautiful molten multicolored iridescent glass, primarily blue with green, purple and white. Metal base stamped "Germany" twice and "Orivit 2576". The Rheinische Bronzegießerei für Kleinplastiken factory (Rhenish Bronze Foundry for Small Sculptures) was in business for only a very short time. Founded in 1894 in Cologne, Germany the company created 'Orivit' a type of luxury metal in 1898. In 1900 the company name was changed to Orivit AG fur Kunsthandwerkliche Metalwarenfabrikation (Orivit Corporation for Handicraft Metal Goods Manufacturing). The company went bankrupt and was absorbed by WMF in 1905.
Condition: Wear to gilding on metal mount, glass has a few small star cracks and one larger near the bottom that is approximately 2 1/2 inches across. It mostly lies behind a section of the mount and is pictured in several images, illustrating that while visible, it isn't particularly obvious on the outside of the vase. The vase is 10 inches tall by about 13 inches across at the shoulder; 9 7/8 across top opening and 6 7/8 base diameter. Weighs close to 9 pounds.
