A super 1958 Topps #150 New York Yankees Mickey Mantle baseball card. As collector's know, the colorful 1958 Topps set is one the most desirable pre-1970 card sets and its difficult to find cards from this set in higher grades. The card offered here has original gloss on the front, slightly off-white borders, it is centered well side to side, but less so top to bottom. Front has a very small, light scuff detected only by checking it with a raking light (shown) and a surface impression across the CK in Mickey that is so slight as to be almost imperceptible. I tried to get the light just right in the first images to show it. If the card were slabbed it might not even be visible at all. Upper left corner shows a bit of fray, but this is also mostly noticeable only if you take a really close look, other three corners look good. Reverse side is in lesser condition. This card and 11 others from the same 1958 Topps set were discovered pasted into a scrapbook so there is some paste residue, wax staining and minute surface losses in the upper text section. It would grade higher if the back were in nicer shape, but the front side of the card is really, really nice.
Mickey Mantle (1931-1995) from Commerce, Oklahoma was and is one of the most popular Major League baseball players - ever. Rightfully listed among the top 100 baseball players of all time, three time winner of the American League's Most Valuable Player award, Mickey Mantle is an iconic Hall of Famer (HOF). Baby Boomers who were children during the Golden Age of baseball probably idolized the 'Commerce Comet' throughout Mantle's playing years (1951-1969). ' If your Dad followed baseball and collected baseball cards as a kid 'The Mick' was surely one of his heroes.
