Antique Sterling Ladle with Fruit Design - Towle Circa 1887
This gorgeous estate Victorian era ladle or sauce spoon is made of sterling silver with a gold wash on the bowl. It has the most beautiful aesthetic movement design with fruit and holly leaves on the handle and a hand engraved design in the bowl. There are peach or cherry, pear and grapes. I don't know what kind of fruit is represented in the bowl - it might even be some type of nut. The ladle measures about 5 7/8" long by 2" across the bowl. The weight is about 31.3 grams. Signed with the maker's mark of the initial T with a rampant lion for TOWLE and also marked STERLING PAT. OCT.11.1887. There is expected light age appropriate wear and uneven patina (tarnish) that we have left untouched. This would be wonderful for serving a little sauce, gravy, or cream - and especially nice to display. You will treasure this!!!
