800 Silver Taj Mahal Vintage Estate Powder Compact
This fabulous vintage compact is made of 800 silver (by comparison 925 is sterling silver. The top of the compact has a detailed hand engraved design of the famous Taj Mahal in India. Some areas on the top have a contrasting light gold wash and the finial of the dome and the tops of the minarets are set with ruby red colored stones. The building of the Taj Mahal was started in 1632 by Shah Jahan to hold the tomb of his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died in childbirth while having their fourteenth child. The compact measures about 3” across. It is marked SILVER on the inside. The total weight is about 93.5 grams. Good vintage condition with age appropriate wear. There are a few tiny chips to the stones noted under magnification. The mirror shows expected ageing. The compact looks to be unused. There is a screen. There is no powder puff. The compact opens well (push in the center button, then open) and closes with a snap. We have not cleaned or polished this.
