Antique Sterling Arkansas Rebus Watson Estate Souvenir Spoon
This awesome antique American Victorian to Edwardian era travel souvenir spoon is made of sterling silver and the handle has a rebus (word puzzle) design. At the top of the handle is the letter R, followed by an oil can, and then a saw - say them together and you have R-can-saw - a funny play on the name Arkansas. It has a detailed design in the bowl which reads - Nashville - Arkansas Traveler. There is a man in a hat sitting on a horse and talking to another man, a boy and his dog, and a lady and girl in the doorway of the house. The spoon measures about 4 15/16" long by just shy of 1" across the bowl. The weight is about 12.7 grams. It is signed with the marks of a crown, initial W and left facing lion which is the maker's mark of WATSON, NEWELL & CO. of Attleboro, Massachusetts. They produced sterling flatware, souvenir spoons, holloware, vanity items and novelties. We would estimate this was made around the turn of the century. Good antique condition with light age wear. You will treasure this!!!
