Art Deco Sterling Catalina Island Rolling Log Vintage Spoon
This awesome Art Deco era spoon is made of sterling silver. The bowl has a detailed design and reads CATALINA ISLAND CAL. Since the Casino isn't present in the bowl, this would date to pre 1929. On the handle are two rolling or whirling log designs also called good luck swastika and arrows. The Santa Catalina Island was originally settled by Native American Indians called Pemugnans or Pimugnans. The spoon is close to a teaspoon size, and measures about 5" long by about 1" across the bowl. The weight is about 11.3 grams. Signed with the maker's initials of P & B inside hearts - which is the mark of PAYE & BAKER and also marked STERLING. Good vintage condition with light age wear and it looks like the sterling originally had a lacquer coating to prevent tarnish which is partially still present. You will love this most unusual spoon for the California collector. A great little piece of history. You will love this!!!
