Antique 1897 Sterling Big Ben Souvenir Spoon
What a gorgeous Victorian era spoon! It is made of sterling silver and looks like it might have a gold wash in the bowl and on the front of the Big Ben Tower - it is hard to tell because of the patina (tarnish). The Big Ben Tower is now officially known as the Elizabeth Tower. The spoon measures about 4 5/8" long by slightly over 7/8" across the bowl. The weight is about 14.4 grams. It has London England hallmarks of an uncrowned leopard head, a left facing lion (for sterling), and the letter U. It is signed with the initials CS FS with a star in between which is the mark of CORNELIUS SAUNDERS & FRANCIS SHEPHERD. It is also marked RD NO 176861. On the back, it is monogrammed F.A. and dated 1897. Good antique condition with light age appropriate wear. There is a nice warm dark uneven patina (tarnish) to the sterling that we have left untouched. Perfect for the travel souvenir collector or the United Kingdom collector. You will treasure this!!!
