Antique Sterling Paye & Baker Maximilian of Mexico Estate Spoon
What a great antique Victorian or Edwardian era souvenir spoon! It is made of sterling silver. The handle reads EL COCHE DE MAXIMILANO - MEXICO - CALENDARIO AZTECA OPIEDRA DEL SOL. Maximilian (Maximilano) declared himself Emperor of Mexico on April 10th, 1864 and was later executed by the Mexican government in 1867. There is an interesting article about him that you can read on Wikipedia. The spoon measures about 4 3/16" long by slightly over 7/8" across the bowl. The weight is about 10.9 grams. Signed with the initials P & B inside hearts which is the maker's mark of PAYE & BAKER and also marked STERLING. This spoon commemorates an interesting event in history. You will love this!!!
