Antique Shiebler Sterling STATUE OF LIBERTY Spoon - 5 3/4" Teaspoon - Souvenir of New York City
This gorgeous antique circa 1891 Victorian era American spoon is made of sterling silver with a design that depicts the center of the Seal of New York City in the bowl. The bowl's design includes windmill blades or sails symbolizing the Dutch heritage, and beavers and flour barrels which symbolize the earliest trade goods. The handle depicts the Statue of Liberty with the design being on both the front and back. There's an eagle on the front. The tablet reads 4th July 1776 and at Lady Liberty's feet it reads Excelsior which is Latin for Ever Upward. On the back at the bottom of the statue, it is marked P'T'D JULY.91. The spoon measures about 5 3/4" long by 1 3/16" across the bowl. Marked STERLING and is signed with the S with wings maker's mark of GEORGE W. SHIEBLER. The weight is about 36.9 grams. Good condition with age appropriate wear. You will treasure this!!!
