Antique DAVID ANDERSEN Signed Sterling & Enamel Set - Early Mark Sugar Tongs Spoon and Medicine Invalid Spoon - Norway
What a great set of matching antique Victorian or Edwardian era David Andersen Norwegian spoon, medicine spoon and sugar tongs! They are made of sterling silver and the bowls of the spoons have a light gold wash. The set is enameled in beautiful colors of cobalt blue, aqua blue and green. The medicine spoon measures about 5 5/8" long by 1 15/16" at the widest. The spoon measures about 6 1/16" long by slightly over 1 1/4" across the bowl. The sugar tongs measure about 4 3/8" long by 5/8" across the pinchers. The medicine spoon and the tongs are monogrammed with the engraved fancy initials SBM (could also be seen as being TBM or LBM). All of the pieces are signed with the bench tools forging tongs and hammer mark of DAVID ANDERSEN and also marked 925S. I did some research on this mark and one well known site listed this mark as being used from 1888 - 1925. These date to the Victorian to Edwardian era. The total combined weigh is about 79.4 grams. Good antique condition with age appropriate wear as seen. The enamel shows some expected loss and wear consistent with age and use, but nothing that detracts. What a great find for the collector of Scandinavian silver! You will treasure them!!!
