Antique UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON Sterling Estate Souvenir Spoon - Mayer Bros.
This gorgeous Victorian era antique spoon is made of sterling silver. It reads UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON in the bowl and has a detailed scene. On the front of the handle, there is George Washington, what might be Puget Sound, and a logger. On the back of the handle, there is Mt. Rainier, a miner in a mine and salmon fish. Just a little history,,, The University of Washington was founded in 1861 in Seattle, Washington. It is one of the oldest Universities on the West Coast and has one of the best Medical schools in the world. If the U of W is your alma mater, you will be very happy to find this! The spoon measures slightly over 3 3/4" long by almost 3/4" across the bowl. Marked STERLING and signed with a maker's mark of a fleur de lis inside a triangle - which is one of the marks of JOSEPH MAYER BROTHERS. Very good antique condition. We would estimate this was made in the early 1900s. You will treasure this!!!
