Antique STERLING SOUVENIR SPOON Signed West Virginia Government Building
This gorgeous antique Victorian or Edwardian era souvenir spoon is made of sterling silver. It has a detailed design in the bowl and reads GOVERNMENT BUILDING BLUEFIELD W. VA. The handle has two men, probably early settlers, a lamb, corn and a pine tree on the front. On the back, the handle has an eagle and and American Flag. The spoon measures about 4 1/8" long by about 7/8" across the bowl. The weight is about 9.2 grams. It is signed with the hallmarks of a crown (the crown isn't impressed well, but I believe that's what it is), initial W and left facing lion which is the maker's mark of WATSON, NEWELL & CO. of Attleboro, Massachusetts. They produced sterling flatware, souvenir spoons, holloware, vanity items and novelties. We would estimate this was made around the turn of the century. Good antique condition with light age wear. You will treasure this!!!
