Antique MT TACOMA Washington Signed Sterling Estate Souvenir Spoon
This gorgeous Victorian or Edwardian era antique spoon is made of sterling silver. It reads MT. TACOMA 14529 FT in the bowl and has a detailed mountain scene. This was made during the time when a big controversy raged about whether to call the mountain Mt. Tacoma or Mt. Rainier. If you google Mt. Tacoma, you can read some interesting articles about this. On the front of the handle, it reads Seal of the City of Tacoma Wash 1884 - Old Church - Fir Trees. On the back it reads, Olympic Range - City Hall - Totem Pole. The spoon is a demitasse size and measures just shy of 3 7/8" long by about 13/16" across the bowl. It weighs about 6.8 grams. Marked STERLING and signed with a maker's mark of a fleur de lis inside a triangle which is one of the marks of JOSEPH MAYER BROS. and also has an initial H. Very good antique condition. We would estimate this was made in the late 1890s to early 1900s. You will treasure this!!!
