I always like getting the work of Reveriano Castillo; without exception, it is of the highest quality and the most innovative design and generally, pretty hard to find. This is a pair of very nice, classic sterling silver earrings. Large and showy, the earrings close with well working screwbacks. I would date this pair to the 1950s.
According to Bille Hougart's book, The Little Book of Mexican Trade and Hallmarks, Reveriano Castillo, of the famous Los Castillo family of Taxco, began his career as an apprentice with William Spratling. He also worked for Hector Aguilar until he opened his own taller, Reveri, in 1952. Morrill & Berk also dedicate pages several pages to Reveriano Castillo in their masterful work, Mexican Silver, where they go on to praise Castillo's expertise as a silversmith. They also make note of his and his wife Maria's generosity in the Taxco community, pointing out that they allowed Margot (of de Taxco fame) to live with them after she lost her home and shop.
