.....purer than sterling......
This is one of the nicest necklace I've every acquired from Taxco, Mexico. An early piece, circa 1930s, the necklace is made of 980 silver which is purer than sterling. The necklace sports 5 pendants, each with a hand carved obsidian stone in a very nice gold sheen. Each pendant is embellished with bead balls and the necklace closes with a well working hook clasp. The artisan who made this purposefully oxidized the silver so that the necklace would have a black appearance, adding to the goth-ness of it. You can polish it shiny if you'd like, but I would leave it as it is with the purposeful patina because it is quite striking. A beauty!
Hallmark: Taxco 980
Size: Wearable: 15"; Width of largest pendant: 1 1/2"; Grams: 84 (quite heavy)
Note, I can supply a new sterling silver necklace extender that will allow you to extend the length up to 18", just let me know if you would like that included.
Condition: Excellent vintage - I have only lightly buffed, you may wish to polish more - the main pendant has one bead ball missing but it is hardly noticeable
