I always enjoy seeing the work of Taxco Modernist master, Sigi Pineda, known as Sigi de Tasco. So I am pleased to be able to offer this beautiful sterling silver and amethyst pin made by Sigi, circa 1950s. The design motif is Modernist and the pin takes the shape of group of flowers and leaves. Clearly signed, clearly wonderful!
Sigfrido Pineda (Sigi) is an award winning Taxco artisan. He has been known throughout Taxco for many years, starting his career at the taller of Los Castillo. Sigi also worked with Salvador Teran and Piedra y Plata. The last workshop Sigi worked at, before beginning his own taller, was at Margot de Taxco where he became the head enamelist before starting his own shop in 1952. Mexican Silver has a HUGE section on Sigi in their book, an indication of the esteem Sigi is held in. For added reference, there is a superb interview with Sigi, done in 2000, at "Modern Silver" magazine's site.
