Rare Arras Faience that was made prior to 1790 .. In a dramatic village scene of 18th century homes and a church perched on an embankment along side a river with trees and a stormy sky that is so boldly painted.. .. the trees in the center appear to be moving in the wind.. flowers & butterflies surround the 4 sides and two handles.. a few tiny glaze rubs on rim re-glazed.. now excellent..measures 8" long x 6" wide x 2" high. Nice rich tin glaze over a heavily applied blue-white glaze.. yes indeed a rare item for "Arras" was only in business for 20 years being founded in 1770 by Joseph Francois Boussomaert who produced only soft-porcelain. Fully marked on base.
