A Rare/Unique French Faience Box with exquisitely painted designs; very intricately done in a six-sided shape with 'gent'; French Sterling silver mounts in very good condition . deep , heavily applied tin -glaze and painted in the 'Petit feu' technique. in which low temperatures are used to achieve vivid colours.. Looks as if the artist used a single bristol - brush to achieve such fine drawings... After much research on the internet, I determined that this is Moustiers, (or Tournay or Tavernes) as Kovel's book "Dictionary of Marks - Pottery and Porcelain" Page 49-50 indicates. Measures 5" x 3" x 2 1/2'.. Domed lid. Just noticed a super-fine, tight hairline on base that is not noticeable unless you use magnifier.
