Lovely pair of French Faience Armorial Potpourri Jars with exquisitely painted flowers with an armorial shield surrounded by raised gold roping with white raised dots (moriage) beading that is also on the top of the crown.. Gold is 24k., painted in the petit-feu manner which allowed more colours to be used as it was fired at a lower temperature. Paul Hannong was the first to used gold on faience in 1744 King Louis XV was the first to receive these objects when he visited the factory.. Hand cut -outs on top & bottom of course.. very thick heavily applied white rich tin-glaze over a light terracotta base.. To me Heaven will be French faience décor.. measures 8" high X 4" across X 12" circumference.. some typical minor imperfections
