Spectacular Antique French Faience by Arras Rococo Letter Holder with a French young man with a basket and a young woman who seems to be rejecting his proposal, with sailboat in background a& a lovely country setting, lovely flowers and a dragonfly with c-scrolls and in the back ground a church with steeple & country cottages and two sailboats.. The front section bows out giving it an undulating effect that makes it shimmer.. Lovely! Arras Faience Factory founded in 1770 in the town with same name is near Lillie,France which is in Northern France near Belgium.. The factory is famous for it's blue pigment which is founded only on the site of the factory '. Kovel's 'Dictionary of Marks' section 'A ', page '6' letter 'M' shows this mark.. Measures 9" wide x 6 1/2" high x 6 "deep.. very heavy approximately 7-8 lbs before packaging.. some small chips on rim edges have been restored. Now in very good condition. The Arras Factory closed in 1790.
