The Hannong factory was found by Charles Francois in 1709 then handed to his sons Paul & Balthasar. In 1744 Paul discovered the art of applying 24k gold over the white enamel glaze and profited by the visit of King Louis XV to Strasbourg where Paul Hannong presented to the King the first examples of this new discovery.. Paul died in 1760 and the factory ceased in 1810. This example is of Paul Hannong. It measures 6" wide x 4 1/2" high x 4 1/4" deep. there has been restoration on the bottom drawer & a couple of tiny chips.. now in very stable, excellent condition.. A rare piece of history.. very substantial, heavy-weight as all these early Hannong items are.. The 24k.gold color is much brighter in person.
