Antique Chinese Mandarin Qianlong Bowl, circa 1770,or earlier, rare form, on 3 feet(stand), superbly potted in a heavy porcelain and exquisitely hand-painted with a center scene of Three Scholars, maybe architects, because it looks like there is a Drawing Board with a lamp over it in blue!,( a vase would fall on slanted surface) with a young Boy, a student, being instructed by the 3 Scholars, in a court yard setting with rounded, huge columns with a gray Pagoda roofs on top of the columns, with small farmhouses in background with planting fields and Pine trees , surrounded by a border of masterly painted reserves of red & gray birds sitting on Cherry trees with other reserves of red flowers, with gold C-scrolls , aubergine ( red- purple) S- scrolls bases, with vermilion inserts with gold geometric designs, surrounded by a border of pinwheels. on the reverse border on sides there are more reserves (cartouches) of the same, total of 16 of these little paintings. All this is wonderfully potted ( see back) in a sumptuous mold with three little feet. 7 colors plus gold and originally may have had circular gold ornaments on Scholars heads.. We have never seen on quite like this one. very heavily, richly potted..Some very minor frits and a tiny flake restored under rim( do not show unless we look very closely). Measures 5 1/2" W. X 1 1/2" H. Thanks for viewing this art work. There is alot more gold than shows up in photos.. 98% of it is intact. The vermilion reserves all have gold that is only partially showing in photographs!! yikes! We checked out various web-sites,etc. to find another one in this design and so far there is none; a bowl on three feet/stand. will keep on researching...
