Here are 2 figurines from a collection of Central Java gamelan musicians and instruments. (We might be listing the other pieces in the future.) The standing dancer or "Penari" is 6" and the seated singer or "Pesinden" is 4". The batik patterns on their sarongs indicate that they are from the Sultan's Court of Surakarta (also known as Solo). They are from the 60s or earlier as the newspaper they were originally stored in is from 1964. They are in lovely condition for their age. The dancer's base has been repaired (see photo) but her pretty feet and the rest of her are fine. The scarf she holds up with her right hand has a chip missing at her wrist. The seated singer seems to be in perfect condition. Her long coiled hairdo is very nice but we just had too many photos to list. Let us know if you need to see more photos.
