Unusual short-eared Japanese Nippon porcelain vase hand painted with an aquatic scene of a man at the helm of a sailboat with a seagull in the foreground and several other sailboats in the distance. On the reverse side on a green ground is a cluster of lavender flowers. The geometric details accented by gold moriage beads echos Arts & Crafts and early Art Deco designs.
The vase measures 10" tall and 6-1/2" diameter at the handles. The green circular backstamp on the bottom is marked "ROYAL NIPPON Nishiki" (made 1906-1921).
Condition is perfect save some gold rub, particularly on the ear handles.
