Here's a spectacular classical carved shell cameo of a woman with flowers in her hair and on her gown. A creamy, highly detailed depiction of the goddess Flora is rendered from peach and rose-colored layers of the shell. Dating 1870-80, the oval cameo is mounted in a very finely wrought white gold hexagonal setting with the conventional roll-claw locking pin and a pivoting bale. Marked "14K" on the clasp.
Quite thick, it measures 2-1/8" X 1-5/8" or roughly the size of a chicken egg. Pristine condition; no sign of wear or repairs. When held to the light it shows no lines or streaks, just smooth creamy color throughout indicating no hidden damage.
A timeless piece to be treasured!
