Here's a handsome Satsuma vase executed in the old style techniques, copious moriage, rich, glistening enamels in a rainbow of colors. The base color is canary yellow on glazed biscuit pottery. The gilded decoration and handles are still strong and not overly worn. The scene on the front is one of a Japanese nobleman sitting on a comfortably-appointed outdoor dais and being attended to by a beautiful young geisha . The reverse is simply three inconsequential blossoms painted on an uncolored plane.
While the vase is a little dingy and could use some careful cleaning, there is no damage or repairs of any kind. There is the expected age checking of the glaze most evident at the mouth and underside.
