Unusual two-piece cabinet of mixed hardwood veneers over pine case. Two blind doors on upper section open onto one slide-out drawer and open shelves. The lower portion contains one full-width drawer with original cleated brass pulls and escutcheon. Legs are chunky cabriole with some shallow decorative carving at the knees and feet. Two religious figures are inlaid in the center of each door. A heavily-carved vaulted pediment of floral/fruit motif crowns a complex, radiating-corner molding which is echoed in the bottom molding separating the two halves of the body. The stand has scroll carved design.
The condition is sound and original with no restoration or refinishing. There is some loss at the back feet tips but not evident from front or side view. All interior and back boards are untouched and reflect the surface tool marks and exposure one would expect on an early 18th century piece. All hardware (including lock) appears original and hand-wrought, although some screws are later. The upper portion of the cabinet is set with two large, ornate iron handles for lifting it off the base. Height is 78", width 42" and depth 20".
